I may not get the answer here but il ask anyway,

My drivers side xenon bulb needs changing ( long story, through no fault of my own!). I have attempted to change the bulb myself while the headlight is still intact and I cant get over what a pain in the anus it is. I have tried everything from the bulb in first, then the donut shaped O ring that goes over it, and then fitting the ballast and its lead at the end, to putting all three components together before putting it in and I cant seem to get the bulb to sit correctly.

I think I have the bulb as close as I possibly could to sitting correctly, the ballast is slightly off horizontal.. but now ive noticed the bi xenon shutter is stuck open. So the beam on that side is ‘full beam’ as the shutter should be closed.. what have I done here?

The car went in to Volkswagen Merthyr today. It took 45minutes and 3 workshop boys to suss it out and they actually gave up and told me I had to book the car in for them to get the bumper off and light out to do it properly, and they also said the bi xenon shutter could be something unrelated and a separate problem!?

The shutter always worked as it should before I started faffing about with the light.

Please help! Its annoying me that a bulb has so far beaten 5 people.

Thanks

Irfan

thanks for them mate.

i've come across the link on the R32oc as 'im on there and searched for it, but unfortunately it isn't as easy as the guide makes out...at least on the drivers side where there is less room.

I still cant get over 3 VW Technicians didn't have the foggiest how to do it!

Sadly it may be easier to see whats going on with the headlight out, not easy on some cars but my experience of vw bumpers is that there isnt many fixings holding them on and are quite easy to remove.
If you have the tools and time there will surely be a guide online somewhere, you may be able to just loosen off the problem side enough to expose the fixings.

No worries - I had a similar thing with a Honda Jazz and Honda wanting to charge me a LOT to check the Xenons. Which turned out to be HIDs.

It was a wheel off job too...
