R8 manual gearbox question
Discussion
Hi All,
I looked at and drove a 2009 manual R8 and it felt great in every respect apart from what I would describe as a slightly worn synchro. I did several changes up from 2nd to 3rd (which from my experience is the usual area for any worn synchro to exhibit itself) and on fairly quick changes I could feel a degree of resistance and grauncy feel on slotting into 3rd gear.
Just want to know from those in the know if it doesn't take kindly to fast changes or there are known issues. Car has done 30k miles but had quite a few owners if this helps.
Cheers,
Mark.

When going from second to third in mine there feels like a slight bit of resistance at the end of the shift, almost as if there's a bit of sponge between the lever and the gate but nothing graunchy so to speak. It was like this when I bought the car at 16k miles and 10k miles later seems no different. I'm not aware of any common issues with the boxes so I'd assume all is fine. They are a bit on the notchy side esp when cold.

I have this too, seems to be a characteristiceasy one this chaps........I had a R8 for 18 months and I thought when I initially bought mine this was normal......it is not!
The gear lever is attached to the gearbox via linkages traveling along the length of the car to the rear.
Over time, or even when brand new, the linkages move out of adjustment.
It requires fine tuning to sort out.
Take to an Audi dealer (who has the R8 techs) or a specialist and get them to do it for you. No more than an hours labour.
Gearbox will feel like a million bucks after this has been done!
For more info search R8talk.com.......great resource of information.
