A4 b8 3.2 Quattro starter motor changeout how bad?

Anyone know how bad the starter motor is to swap out on a 2008 a4 (b8) 3.2 Quattro, mines gone bad so the first start of the day it doesn't engage properly.
Of course I only bought the car two days ago - call up the seller, oh yeah it does that you just have to put the key in a bit slower. Thanks - caveat emptor and all that, luckily I got it very cheap - perhaps this is why?
Here's hoping it's not like the a8 v8 where the engine has to come out to replace the starter motor !!!!!!
