DSG gearbox glitch

Dealer with your chassis number can log in and see if there are any applicable updates.
They are generally chargeable if the car is not under warranty and it's simply an update rather than a service action or recall.
Ahh thanks. They are generally chargeable if the car is not under warranty and it's simply an update rather than a service action or recall.
I take it you haven't heard of similar problems in the past? If it isn't a software update I hope its not something that's going to break the bank!

Does it ever do it if you use the gear selector in manual rather than the paddles? I'm thinking it could be a fault with the steering wheel wiring.
If you know someone who has VAGCOM you can check the output of the paddle switches while you move the steering about and see if there is anything strange going on.

No its only happened with the upshift paddle on the wheel. If you know someone who has VAGCOM you can check the output of the paddle switches while you move the steering about and see if there is anything strange going on.
On the road test I constantly clicked the paddle driving around and no faults happened or were logged.
It's completely random when it happens so not much chance of me replicating it with it plugged in.

Its all standard and its a 12 plate that's only just gone over 18k.
The selector stick changing seems to be fine so I guess it the the wiring to the paddle or the switch, but no faults have been logged and none can be found actively using it on diagnostic.
All the googling I have done the only paddle faults I can find are just the paddles stopping working, nothing like this!
I recall it happening when the steering wheel is straight though, but it's completely intermittent.
Maybe just hope its a glitch in the system that sorts itself out.

Well its eight months on and its still there? so there must be a problem somewhere. The selector stick changing seems to be fine so I guess it the the wiring to the paddle or the switch, but no faults have been logged and none can be found actively using it on diagnostic.

Is your battery OK? I ask because I have an '04 A3, 3.2 DSG and the gearshift works perfectly but on a few occasions when the battery has been a bit low on charge I have had random electrical 'oddities' usually just warning lights when there is actually nothing wrong but twice the gearbox has misbehaved, eventually ending up in neutral.
Switching off and restarting would cure it, presumably because then the battery has more power after having been run for a while? but I only ever had faults shortly after starting if the battery wasn't properly up to charge.
Ultimately a new battery fixed it...

It happened a few times last year, I don't use the paddles that often but when I figured out what was causing it I stopped using them altogether. It just started bugging me though incase there was a bigger problem with the gearbox so I took it in for diagnostic about a month ago.The advice is just wait until it gets worse or happens again and see if it flags up a fault because not knowing exactly what it is, you don't know if the repairs/changing things are making any difference.
More detailed description of what actually happened:
Its happened driving at slow speeds upshifting with the paddle and also hard launch in Sport mode then shortshifting up with the paddle before the redline.
You hit upshift paddle and the car just downshifts, but it seems to bypass the gearbox safety of it not letting you downshift when you are already going too fast for that gear and it screams and bounces off the limiter and gets stuck there until you knock it into another mode to reset it.
It worried me when it did it accelerating because you're at about 50mph accelerating and it shifts down into a gear you shouldn't even be able to drop too and the car massively engine brakes and howls.
Its never actually happened with somebody else in the car and couldn't replicate it in the 30-40+ mins of diagnostic road testing.
For all anybody knows I've imagined it!
