Current model golf isn't affected which is a relief seeing as they have made keyless standard on all new GTI's and GTD's.

I think krooklock have had it good for a while now as this has been an issue for BMW and Land Rover for a number of years now.

It is interesting at the beginning of the Bloomberg article it says that BMW and Range Rovers are particularly at risk but these car are not mentioned on the list of cars known to be affected in the article and it is well known that all cars that are keyless whatever make and model can be easily stolen by electronic car hacking.

Recently in America some guys proved flaws with cars computers and electronics. Two guys were in a house with a laptop and another guy was driving a new Jeep along the highway 10 miles away from the house. The car was fitted with cameras and the guy driving was told that at some time they would take over control of the cars functions. The guys in the house changed radio channels, air conditioning, made the car brake, eccelerate, etc and the guy driving had no control of the car.

Two years ago the two guys did the same thing but by sitting in the passengers seat of the car with a laptop, now they can do it from 10 miles away, what will they be able to do in another two years time and will it affect all cars.

No wonder classic cars are going up in value so quickly.

A colleague of mine has a FFRR - his insurance company insist on a Dislok (Thatcham 3 approved, IIRC) is fitted whenever the car is left.

The list of models is strange; why are A4s affected but not A5s or Q5s? Why do some state a specific year but others not?

This is not the full story.

It's a pretty useless list. According to this Audi haven't used the affected Megamos chips for at least 10 years, apart from (possibly? A3's) So A5/Q5 weren't available.

And having a 10-year old car is likely a better deterrent than a disklok.
