Audi A6 BiTDI: Best wheel size compromise
Discussion
I just bought a 2014 Audi A6 Avant BiTdi SE, which has been specced by the first owner in best Q car style, with 17" 225/55 tyres.
While this makes for a hugely comfortable drive, I can't help but think that I will need to get a set of wheels in 18" or 19", as the 17" look quite lost.
It does not have S line or sport suspension, so what would be a good compromise? I don't want 20" but would 19" still be comfortable enough (coming from an E92 M3 it will obviously be comfortable), or induce tramlining or drastically increase tyre roar?

Yes, I was somewhat surprised too. Don't know if there are any differences between a Belgian spec and UK spec car, but would have thought not. The ride was sublime but just a bit too floaty, especially with the 225-55 tyre dimension.
It also came with a new set of 18" winter wheels, strangely, that the first owner had bought but never used.
I am kind of tempted to keep this Q look but have seen a nice set of 19" 255-40 wheels on ebay.de that I may just get. Just worried that it would ruin the ride, but I suppose with a non-S line suspension it should be ok.

that could explain it or the 17's I tried weren't quite right. It also came with a new set of 18" winter wheels, strangely, that the first owner had bought but never used.

I'm on 20's with sline and the ride is fine, got 2 young kids and they don't bounce too much lol
With the SE suspension I would say the ride would float nicely :-)
I have a black edition with 20 inch rims and the ride is absolutely fine. I can do 30mph over speed bumps that would require you to come to a dead stop in a BMW.
The criticism of the audi ride (I recall Clarkson suggested that the tyres may as well be filled with concrete) does not seem to apply to the A6. I think that the size of the car helps.

I'm in the same position. My 55 plate A6 had sports suspension and 19s and it was very firm. So much so that I was hesitant to spec it on my new car.The criticism of the audi ride (I recall Clarkson suggested that the tyres may as well be filled with concrete) does not seem to apply to the A6. Taking a chance, I chose 20s and sports suspension on my 9 day old BiTurbo and the ride is massively more compliant than the C6 was. So much so that I had to check that Audi had put the sports suspension on. The car is very capable, very planted but also very compliant. The difference is night and day.
It must feel like a flying carpet on SE suspension and 17s.

coming from my Competition pack E92 M3 to the A6 on 17" and SE suspension it certainly was driving a very comfortable waterbed. Slightly worried how 19" will look with the SE suspension, as the S line sits 3 cm lower, I think?
Will see Friday in any case, and will put up a few photos too.
