Hi folks, I have a scirocco R on order (2.0TSI 280ps) and I'm wondering if I will benefit peformance/economy wise from running on premium unleaded at the petrol stations. I am looking to get as much of a sports car as I can out of it smile . Any helpful advice appreciated. Thanks.

I would, but I'm a little old school and think if you're spending that kind of money on a new car you don't complain @ what is probably £100/year difference in giving it good fuel.

Hell I use v-power in my TDi.

The 2.0 TFSi engines do pull better with super plus. I used to put it in the wife's S3 and I could tell the difference, she only ever put standard petrol in it

I've done quite a few back to back tests on long journeys in my golf R (same engine as the Siroocco) comparing BP Ultimate/Esso Supreme, both 97 Ron, and VPower which is 99 Ron. I struggled to tell any difference at all in terms of throttle response, economy etc. I haven't put standard unleaded in as prices have been pretty good on super since I've had it. I think 5th gear did a test on an Edition 30 Gti a few years ago and they found the difference between standard unleaded and Vpower was circa 6/7bhp.

VW say you should put 98 Ron in, trouble is nowhere in this country sells 98 laugh

FWIW it's not the same engine. The 2015 Scirocco R still has the EA113 engine (a relic from the MK5 Golf GTI) whereas the MK7 Golf R has the new EA888 engine.

Many thanks. I thought it would get a few extra horses and it looks like it should be ok. I think they use the EA113 engine just so the scirocco doesn't undermine the golf in terms of performance and economy. Kind of annoying but still a great engine nonetheless smile

I'm sure you will notice a difference in performance especially midrange if you use 95 unleaded rather than a premium/super unleaded, I dont think there is any difference between 97 and 99 rated fuels though , I always run my Octavia TSI (EA888) on V power or Tesco Momentum by choice

EA113 was always mapped for 98 RON unless that changed later on. In the case of the last-gen S3 that certainly requires 98.

The EA888 doesn't fit in the Scirocco, otherwise it would have it. Not a lot of sense in producing two four-cylinder, 2-litre turbo engines that have very similar power outputs!

I've got a 2014 Cupra 280 with the EA888 engine.

The car is Stage2 tuned and has always been run on 99 ron fuel. I was running it on Momentum 99 the other day when doing a data logging session, the logger said are you using momentum? I said yeh why he said the car is pulling timing.

Logged a few days later using Nitro+ and no timing at all.

So just because you cant feel the difference on bum dyno doesn't mean there isn't a difference.
