Mother-in-law had a call from VW today telling her she needs a new cambelt, which is strange as it was only serviced a couple of weeks back and they didn't mention it then.

Anyway car was registered Aug 2012 and only done 10K, I don't have the handbook to hand but the interweb seems to suggest either 4 or 5 years, not 3 years!

This VW link says 5 years.

Anybody know why they are suggesting 3, is there a known issue?

PM me the registration, and I'll check autodata for you.

They rang me shortly after a service too - to tell me my tyres where worn close to the "European legal limit" and I should bring the car in and get them changed as a matter of urgency.

Car gets serviced at an indie now.

That's what I'm concerned about, seems like sharp practice.

Of course it is - they're trying to steal money off your MIL assuming she'll panic and agree to have it done.

Ok thanks, 5 years it is then.

Need to be on your toes with these stealers.
