Starting issue on 1.8T - any suggestions?

I have an 02 TT 1.8t 225 which has developed a bit of a starting problem.

After being left overnight it will fire on the first turn of the key then die. It repeats this 4 or 5 times before it fires and idles.
If I give it throttle after ignition it will rev briefly then die.

Once it's started - it all runs fine and no issues

Any idea what it could be or any simple checks I can do myself before sending off to the mechanic?

I'd be checking either immobiliser or fuel pump really mate

Get it on diagnostics to determine which one

Presumably you mean the fuel pump RELAY?

Crank & cam position sensors can lead to similar non starting issues.
