Hey guys - I'm loving the new Mk5 R32 I bought but have only one beef. The DSG box is a bit jerky when pulling away from static (e.g. lights) - even pulling away really gently it seems to slam into gear and pull away aggressively.

Is this normal, and is there a fix or mod to make it less aggressive in the pull away from first?

The box is full serviced etc. and the other gearchanges are imperceptible as I read about.

Cheers!

With the 3.2 4-motion DSG (A3 3.2, R32, TT etc.) this can point to issues with the mechatronic unit if it's particularly abrupt.

There are a couple of companies advertising a repair service for the unit but the 2/3 I've sent have all come back 'unable to repair'.

It's never buttery smooth but shouldn't lurch/bang.

before worrying about replacement, if you lift off and let the car engage the gears before applying throttle, does it still jerk forward?

sometimes the pause before starting off leads to a natural tendancy to push harder on the throttle by the driver, then it suddenly engages. See if its still jerky when you let the car creep before applying throttle,

I'd try a DSG reset first. Where are you located?

That's very good advice i.e. let it creep before applying any throttle.

Thanks guys - will give the creep a go tonight and see if that is better.

DSG reset shounds like a good idea too - I'm in Notting Hill or Canary Wharf in London depending on the day.

Muuuuuuuuuch better letting it creep first guys, thanks!

Still a little punchier than I'm used to on an auto, but then my others have been slushbox slowmobiles.

glad to hear, remember a slush box has a torque converter that smooths out power fluctuations, dsg is direct engagment once the clutches are engaged, so even the slightest dab on the pedal will lead to a reaction.
