Just wondering if anyone has any insight into when this car may be put into production? Some reports from a few months ago suggested deliveries late this year, but most suggest sometime next year. I'm number one at my local dealer having put in a LOI a long time ago; not sure whether LOI's are common place with VW (I'm use to this bks with Porsche) and how popular this car will be. Would much rather it get the 2.5ltr engine though, I believe it is a straight transplant.

Last information I heard from a friend who works at the company is that they planned to reveal it at the IAA but concerns about the longevity of the i4 engine forced them to cancel the reveal. According to him there's a real chance that it will be revealed with the Audi 2.5L i5 and an additional 20 PS more, so 420 PS total.

2.5L and I'll sign up instantly, 2.0L and I'll have to debate it a little. Any ideas if it will look more like the concept (flared arches etc), or just basically the R shell with a spoiler? I know the recent shots have been the latter, but for all I know, that was just to test the engine, brakes etc.

R400 was always to be launched with Golf 7 GP Facelift. Will arrive in showrooms early 2017 as a 4 cylinder 400 PS. Clubsport to be built from week 20 next year.

Very interesting if you are in the know. 2017 would be too long for me to wait I suspect, plus 4 cylinder 400 PS, urgh!

I have been told by two separate VW dealeres that VW have asked their dealers for information from potential customers i.e. preference on gearbox whether manual or DSG, 3 or 5 door etc. and the dealers have given VW names of interested people. As I say this information was given to me by two separate VW dealers. There was no mention of a likely date for people being able to order the R400 and even if it will ever be built.

I was also told that orders for the Clubsport will be taken in March/April 2016.
