Bought a mk 7 golf yesterday can't work out how to switch interior lights so that they go off after the usual fade out time
Any suggestions?

Are you talking about the footwell lights?

With the switch in the neutral position don't the lights come on when you open the door?

So, when you press the unlock button in the dark no lights come on?

On both our Marks 7 the external & internal lights come on in the dark when you unlock. There is a setting in the car's menu to adjust the timing &/or switch off. Check the menu?

We entered the menu but couldn't seem to find a solution. Did we miss something?

The wife called in to a Skoda dealership today and they were helpful but unable to improve the lights so there suggested ( of course) going to the vw branch as its a mystery looks like it could be a wiring or switch problem. Will post out when identified.

Success. Took car to lookers guildford vw and they ran many checks but to no avail.
I had read on another forum that someone had same issue and researched to find the problem was in the interior light switch unit . I diplomaticocally mentioned this and pleasant suprise that was the answer . A recall update was also undertaken and under warranty.
So far so good .

Damn - just had my R serviced today and the ACC sensor changed under warranty but I have this issue as well but forgot to tell them!!

I wonder if they fixed it without any prompting?? I will report back later.

At least I know what to tell them!!

On a similar note, is it possible to set the headlights to stay on when you leave the car at night? I've tried following the manual to no avail ...

You have to flash the headlights before getting out of the car to make them stay on. No way to make it do it automatically unfortunately!

Still find its very complex setting every other facility up guess
I've got to be patient and trawl through the large handbook.

All seemed fine this morning, so they obviously dealt wit it...or its self-repairing!

I'll have to double check but I'm fairly sure I don't do this.
There is a setting for lights on both opening and closing and a timer option iirc.
