The service history on my 2009 RS6 is a little bit confusing, and I was hoping one of the Audi Gurus might be able to shed some light on what it might mean.

The main issue that is confusing me is that the service schedule says the car was on long-life servicing, but the history shows "Inspection Services" every year - my understanding is that "Inspection Services" are oil services plus extra checks, but this would mean it's had five oil changes in 30,000 miles (which is great if its correct) which doesn't seem to tie in with the long-life servicing.

Actual services are as follows:

Interval Service & Inspection Service @ 8,769 miles / 14 months

Inspection Service @ 11,178 miles/ 28 months

Inspection Service @ 13,138 miles/ 37 months

Oil Change Service @ 19,918 miles/ 48 months

Interval Service @ 28,939 miles/ 60 months

That's when I took ownership - I then switched to fixed servicing including a full service immediately I took delivery.

Precautionary full Inspection Service / @ 30,108 miles / 65 months
Gearbox oil drain / renew

Inspection Service / Plugs etc @ 32,125 miles / 72 months

I guess the worst scenario is that the "Inspection Services" did not include oil changes (If this is the case , hopefully, I can assume the oil was changed at two years under the long-life servicing rules). Best scenario is that it did have five oil changes before I took ownership, but I'm a bit bamboozled by the various service types it seems to have had (Inspection, Interval, Oil Change).

I know no-one will be able to give a definitive answer, but any thoughts on what it all might mean would be much appreciated.

If it does low mileage then the manual states it should be moved to fixed servicing at annual intervals.

Mine is the same, it's got ticks in both Interval and Long Life servicing boxes but has clearly been done at annual intervals based on the records.

Cheers! It certainly looks as if it's been fully serviced each year from the documentation I have, it was just the fact that both the service schedule book and the Dealer printout showed long-life. (Along with the fact that I suffer from low-level paranoia about previous service histories).

I'll agree with the above; an educated guess is proper, annual servicing (correct for that usage).

Calling the dealers and simply asking nicely will usually yield more detail on exactly what was done if you don't have the paperwork to hand.

Many thanks Dr G - much appreciated.

I wasn't sure how much info the dealers can divulge nowadays, due to data protection stuff but, as you say, asking nicely sometimes can yield results - I'll give it a go.

That always annoys me - you already have the previous owner's address - it's on the registration document! Fair enough don't provide the previous owner's bank card details, but knowing whether it's had an oil change and what it cost shouldn't fall under 'data protection'. It's handy if the dealer doesn't want the aggro of pulling the paperwork though....

I love having all the past bills for my cars and always pass them on when I sell a car - for stuff like an RS6 or anything else costing near enough 6 figures new I'd expect to see invoices to back up stamps in the book.

Yeah, me too, and I went in with good intentions only to buy if all the paperwork stacked up, but then the salesman said

"look into my eyes, not around my eyes, but into my eyes" and all I remember is:

"I think you'll find it very economical"

"Tyres and brakes seem to last forever on these"

"Mmmmm, very comfy"

Next thing I knew, I was the owner of a low mileage RS6, and I only went in to see if a Lupo would be more economic for commuting than my Pashley

Anyway, needless to say , I'm getting into work a bit quicker nowadays, and now I feel reassured about my service history too!

LOL - yep, with you there!

We have 2 cars with 20" wheels - it hurts when you have to buy 2 sets in the same year, but now we run 18" winters on one of them it spreads the wear a bit.

I seem to have set up an AT search for RS6 Avant, although I can't actually afford one at the moment.....just in case the perfect spec one turns up
