Hi

Does anyone have any problems with their SAT NAV, working for an 1 - 2, and then finally the Sat Nav stops working with the following error "Check Sat Nat Disk".

It always happens on a long journey and finally stops.

The disk is a year old (2014 edition - By Audi). I cannot see any scratches/marks on the disk, I have noticed that the disk does get warm but assume that this is normal.

Is it true that the laser could be at fault in the DVD drive?

Would be cheaper to buy a new replacement or getting it repaired. Does it have be an Audi DVD unit?

Is there a hard disk version which could replace the DVD drive system In the boot?

I'd try making a 'backup' copy of the DVD on a PC, and seeing if that works any better. Google will tell you what to do.

Also, try a DVD lens cleaning disc, an/or puff some air into the drive in case there dust/fluff on the lens.

It is possible to install the later '3G' hard-drive based navigation but it's quite involved and expensive.

Have a feel around in the foam sound deadening under the DVD drive, any moisture there? Any water marks on the amplifier above the drive (big silver heat sink on top)? Rear screen wash jet working OK?

Cleaning the laser worth a go too.

Thanks Guys

I have tried to copy my CD, but my laptop would not recognise the CD.

I have come across the following website and may consider this as a last resort.

However I will try cleaning with a CD Lens cleaner, check for leaks etc. as suggested.

You don't have RNSE so that won't help much wink

The drive units for the 2G MMI are usually pretty robust - as suggested above, check for water damage, but if there's none I suspect swapping the whole drive assembly in the boot is the easiest option. Should be plenty available given their general reliability.
