Buying a cancelled Cyrpus VW order in the UK
Discussion
So my Dad has been looking at buying a new(ish) GTI and has seen a few pre registration for sale at a reduced price. When he's rung to query the low price he's been told they are brand new cars straight from the factory but they were cancelled orders from Cyprus.
He'll be contacting VW to ask but in case he can't get a straight answer does anyone know of any gotchas in this?
Apparently the first two years of the warranty will be valid as the warranty is with VW direct but the third year is with the dealership which in this case is not a main dealer so that wouldn't be valid.
Apart from this (if this is the case) is there anything else he should know, is this fairly common and I just haven't come across it before?
Thanks for any insight, obviously don't want him to buy something that may result in a load of complications down the line!

I assume these are from a grey importer such as motor point ??
Check the manufacture year of the car (from the vin) could have been sat in a field for over a year.
Make sure car first registered in the UK
Check to see where the PDI was carried out (and when)
Confirm there is no difference is spec (under seal, fog light etc)
Check the books, manuals etc are in English
Get an insurance quote (technically it will be deemed as an 'import'
When you come to sell it on, expect about 10% less and some VW dealerships to refuse to bid on it.
I've bought a few grey import GTIs over the years, all have been great cars.

I bought a new grey import GTI from motor point back in 2007 - it was great
10th letter of VIN gives manufacture year (runs autumn to following year summer) ..so current build cars will be 2016

You can also check tyres which will have year/week on them...

I have a GTD the previous owner got from motor point in 2011. It was a Cyprus import. I had a couple of issues at just under 3 years old and there were no warranty issues.
Be aware though that the ones they have at the moment are missing key spec like xenons and adaptive cruise etc.
Luckily my mk6 is same spec as uk except for the mdi and a spare wheel, but the mk7s motor point have at the minute seem a bit more different in spec to UK cars

They were discussed on the gti forum http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=2756...
They are missing a few bits of kit that we get as standard in the uk - adaptive cruise/anti crash, drive mode select and most importantly xenons.
Unless they were selling them rediculously cheap I wouldn't bother.

Just want to say thanks to everyone on this thread - after looking at the deals on orangewheels (linked in the GTi thread above) and talking to his local dealer if my dad places an order he'll have saved a substantial amount of money and got all the extras he wanted.
