Had a E63 AMG and sold it as a tow bar could not be attached and maintain the manufactures warranty as the car was not Type approved. We tow a caravan. A normal E class was type approved. Anyway moved into a new F11 BMW 535d with a tow bar as fancied a change from the Merc . Its nice but not E63 nice....
Just missing the E63 and thought about the RS6 as an alternative (watched some online tests and the RS6 has always appealed. - went to the audi configurator and you can spec it with a electrics and tow bar.........but you cant then chose the active suspension/adaptive suspension.
Has anyone driven a non adaptive suspension RS6 or even views on a RS6 as a tow car for a caravan? clearly I want my cake and to eat it !!! if you can call a van a cake.
We dont tow very often approx 2 weeks a year and 5 or so weekends away.

My rs6 air suspension and a tow bar fitted. Tows well!!:-)
I test drove an Rs with adaptive DRC suspension and I actually preference the adaptive air suspension. In my view, the air is great, why spend more on the adaptive?? The air is switchable between comfort and sport, you can tell the difference.
If any body tells you you need the adaptive because the car doesn't handle well on air, then imo they are talking rubbish.
I didn't tow a caravan but my caterham.

Standard air suspension is good - and preferred by some due to slightly better ride comfort. It is adjustable.
Superb towing car.
In fact superb car full stop.
To be honest I found the AMG a bit hairy on wet roads - even dry ones occasionally.
The RS6 just digs in and goes. Ridiculously quick, and sonorous with sports exhaust.
Nice place to sit too.

great replies thank you !
getting interested now.......
Perhaps im getting a bit mixed up in the suspension terminology. So standard it come with air suspension which from what has been said give a good ride. I know the E63 had air and 4 sets of adjustments and 3 for the engine. Found the softest setting the best for me and the roads I drive on but did enjoy changing to slightly harder when needed.
I take it that the RS6 standard ie no cost suspension is a similar set up with say track/normal/comfort/comfort+ does it have separate controls for the engine as well? ie race/normal/sport/ sport+ etc? or will that be with the optional suspension control?
any particular options you gents would recommend?
thanks for explaining --
I hear red ones are faster.....;)

Settings are as follows.
Suspension, steering, gearbox and exhaust are either, comfort, dynamic or auto.
I set my individual setting to all dynamic except the gearbox. It defaults to D and you just pull the gear leaver back to get sport.
I love mine in missano Red, it defiantly faster! ;-) .
Great, great car, brilliant daily drive. I bought mine with the intention of keeping it a year , having fun and moving it on. 1 year later, I've no plans to sell her. Too good.
Options. What do you fancy,? The standard car has all the bits you need, mine got 21" wheels, Quattro front grill, sports exhaust is good!

Sports exhaust a must. I went with original wheels (20) as I find the 21s a bit OTT and roads are dire around me - plus the newer dished versions look great.
Rest is up to you.
Cars come very well specced as standard.
I have yet to drive a better mix of everything I need in one car.
PS - and be prepared for lots of attention - those who know what an RS6 is seem to love them. Those that don't have any idea what it can do / costs (perfect Q car in this respect). Just don't drive around town with the sports exhaust on
