If you haven't been living with anything too modern go for the WRX imho. It will be cheaper to buy and you will be pretty reliable if you service it well. Mk5 always felt a little bit disappointing to me (don't shoot me!) and other than a more modern interior didn't feel as quick, planted or fun as a similar aged WRX. Try both but WRX first, which should be pretty easy, and I bet you will know in the first 5 mins whether you can put up with the characteristics of the WRX or not, if not move on to the golf
