Has anyone on Pistonheads that has ever owned either a mk2 Octavia vrs or Golf Gti mk5, ever experienced the symptoms that my car developed tonight, really loud rattling noise and vibration from the engine when I reached approximately 60 mph, the noise got louder at 70, I backed off and sat at 50 and their was no untoward noise, the noise was intermittent but it was more often heard than not, certainly made my 130 mile journey slow. Would anyone have any idea what could potentially be the cause, the car has 110k on the clock, full service history and cambelt etc was changed about 6 months ago. No warning lights on the dash, and car appears to drive perfectly until motorway speeds.

Have you checked the under-tray is still on securely? Seems odd it got worse as you sped up as rather than revs related that's all.

Fingers cross that solves your vibration. You can buy replacement clips and screws reasonably on ebay or the like if it is that.
