Just at the wrong time my Driver Info System has packed in. The screen went off for about 30 minutes on the M1, then came back for a week and is now totally down. Anyone got any experience of this?

The car has only done 20,000 miles so its a bit surprising its totally failed. I've tried the reset button etc with no success

Have you scanned the vehicle with VCDS?
Being 20,000 I would expect it to be in warranty still. Just take it back. Maybe the screen has failed.

Yes! I have this on my 2010 a4 b8. The LCD display died last week. Black screen, no amount of resetting helped.

I was quoted £1100 for a new dash cluster.

I decided to shop around and get more quotes. An Audi dealer suggested it may be possible to replace the LCD screen only for £400.

Then yesterday it came back on all by itself and now seems to be ok. No idea why.

Let me know how you get on. I fear it is only a matter of time until it goes again.

Maybe some collective pressure on Audi may help?

I've only once before seen one fail completely - a 2011 A5 that was at the time only just out of its warranty (by a week or so). It initially had a couple of blips but would re-appear minutes later then died completely. Audi replaced the whole cluster and covered it as a goodwill repair.

Probably not the most useful answer ever but if it does become a full-time problem you could do worse than speaking to someone like Cartronix:

Appreciate the help, I really should have known better than by a late TFSI Audi, if its not oil consumption and engine problems, its electrical problems.

It's a used car, things happen!
Ex had a 100k A4 TDI and the screen on that was fine.
Generally they are solid cars, you've been unlucky, nothing to do with the engine...

The B8 cars are generally quite well behaved.

Had a TT in today with a weird dash problem - turned out to be a borked battery.

Only that you said "should of known better than to buy a tfsi audi", as if the engine mattered ha.

As predicted the LCD has gone black again this evening.

Op - sounds like I'm following your lead here. Where have you got to with it?

Looks like the cartronix option for £250 is the best option

Thanks. Are you planning to remove the dash cluster yourself or go for while you wait?

Late 2011 so out of warranty. @AudiUK have basically said take it in and talk to us after

Going to remove it myself if audi dont help on the cost, which reminds me, has anyone got a guide for removing the instrument cluster? Apparently they've done it a lot in the US but the dropbox for the instructions is out of date and therefor not accessible. Its quite easy to do apparently.

DIS is toast, Audi want £896 plus fitting. The guy didnt even break his sentence when he said I'll ring warranty monday to see what we can do about that price.

Dependant on where they can get to will depend on next course of action, will update this thread just in case more start failing.

Mine is still intermittent. It started working again today, but only for long enough to nag me to refuel and refill the washer fluid. Then it went back to sleep.

These guys also claim to be able to fix it. Has anyone used them?
