Mk1 Audi TT or not to mk1 Audi TT?
Discussion
My dd is a 2008 fiat panda 100hp with gpl which I have had for 2 years and has cost me nothing other than regular servicing which I do myself. Now TT s have come into this price range and to compete with my gpl a TT has come up with a dual map e85 fuel option. It's a 2000 with 110,000 miles. Am I just scratching an itch or does man maths come into play with similar day to day costs yet more expensive servicing (cancelled by less depreciation). Bearing in mind it is a daily driver with the occasional long long journeys?
Is it just the free time over Christmas to search the classifieds, man maths or a stupid idea?

If I was in your shoes, then I would tread with great caution! A 110,000 miles/14 years old car, could see some nasty expensive Demons awakening. TT,s do look great, but can cost a fortune to run.
The old saying is "Buy in Haste, Repent at Your Leisure"!
I have owned a 225 Coupe and V6 Coupe (Manual), both of which were great cars.

It is purely man maths. I think after 2 years with the fiat and no further expenses it will start to bite me? With the crap weather I haven't got my hands dirty yet. The TT I am interested in has had some money spent in the last year, the timing belt and water pump, coil packs, dump valves, lambda sensors, coolant pipes...... Actually now I am writing this it sounds like the car has just been de-tuned with new oe parts replacing the max power ones..... Mmmm tread carefully indeed.
I have a 10 yr old Audi with 180,000 on it.
It's been great TBH but I have had to replace various parts over the year, shocks , suspension, glow plugs, wiper motor for rear window.
I don not see this as an issue at all and is just what you do to keep a mechanical machine working.
However if you think your going to buy a higher mileage car and never do anything your mistaken. The mileage is not an issue at all in my eyes but stuff will wear out and need replacing.
If you've been driving around basically for free for 2 hrs you are in for a little bit of a shock no matter what you buy TBH.

One of my friends has a very good condition, low mileage (40k miles I think) Mk1 TT coupe (225 bhp) in black/black that he's owned for at least 10 years. Always been garaged and well maintained - doesn't get used much as he's an accountant in the city.
Wouldn't be at the cheaper end of the market, but I think he'd let it go for a reasonable offer and if you're going to buy a Mk1 TT, his must be one of the best examples around.
Drop me an email/PM if anyone is interested.

Just to cast a different light on this....
I've had a MK I 225 TT roadster for the last 12 years, it has now done 201,000 miles as my daily hack! I had only intended keeping it for one Summer!
Yes I have spent money on it over the years, but nothing major or hugely unexpected (it has had 3 cam belts in this time!), still goes well.
