Anyone know if you have to buy a new bumper with parking sensor ports to fit front parking sensors to a 2007 S6, or are the holders there and you just need to drill a hole for them?

Here's a pic of the back of an S6 bumper without parking sensors fitted - are the circled parts the sensor holders?

And the front of the bumper:

I can't answer the question with any authority, however in that photo the 2 circled items look far too close together to be for the parking sensors.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case.

Guess I'll have to track down some pictures of the back of a bumper with the sensor ports.

The outer sensors cut the bumper and from memory they are marked but I could be wrong. All 4 sensors use mounting bosses, outers go onto the bumper and inners on the plate surround:

If you're fitting the Audi sensors you'll need loom, control module and coding also.

That's excellent, thanks!

So, to be absolutely clear, the standard bumper "probably " just needs to be drilled for the outers and the 2 inners will need a specific plate surround?

The bosses you mentioned, are they sold with the sensors do you know?

Happened to stumble across a C6 RS6 and a 56 plate RS4 with front parking sensors this morning, so I thought I'd post up pics. Location of sensors isn't that clear, so I've arrowed them.

Finally tracked down a pic of an S6 with them - looks like I need a new number plate surround?

75.82+VAT RRP

Mounts for the sensors are indeed separate to the sensors themselves.

Cobra make really nice flush fitting sensors if you want a decent, cheaper option.

Thanks, I really want to do a full integrated, oem retrofit, complete with dash button, but it's looking expensive considering the control module, sensors and harnesses can be bought for around £200.

Unfortunately it looks like you have to more than double that just for the plate surround and interior switch.

Then you've got fitting and paint.

Found a place that sells all the hardware for a front sensor retrofit for £390 and will colour code the sensors and fit for another £200. I suspect they'll put the inner two sensors in the bumper next to the grill.

Just a little too pricey for me at the moment, but will think it over. I could probably scrounge the parts together for £300 or so, but would then have to have them painted and fitted.

Really?

I'm hesitating mainly because of running the wiring - I hate having to take interior trim out of cars as I always get a rattle or squeak when I put it back in! And this retrofit will require taking a lot of trim out to run the harness to the control unit in the rear as well as the button in the dash.

It's all pretty much plug and play, the only scary bit is drilling the bumper but if you start with a 2mm bit and get the right size holesaw it should be fine.

I've fitted them to my golf and my dad's audi, just be methodical and take pics along the way if you're unsure. I stripped the golf with just a socket set and a screwdiver in under and hour;

Also worth searching the net for a guide, someone is bound to have done it and logged the process with pics

Worth noting, the inside of the bumper skins are marked with the sensor positions.
