Audi A6 - 2.0 TDi - S line - 177PS - Auto... Any good?!
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm thinking of purchasing a 2013 A6 with an auto / Multitronic / CVT gearbox.
I have read the horror stories of early boxes being naff... but just wondered if the more recent models were any good? Or would I still have problems.
The car has relatively low mileage at around 18,000
Any help or advice greatly appreciated...
Thanks in advance
Dan

My Mrs has a 2014 a5 with the same running gear as that and about the same mileage. It's fine, it's a bit different to a proper auto in traffic in that it doesn't instantly creep forward when you release the brakes. Other than that you don't really notice it, it kind of 'fakes' having actual gear changes but it's quite quiet and smooth so you don't get a lot of feedback.
Don't belive the mpg figures, it's not great and does about 40mpg on a run and mid 30s normal roads

Depends what you want it for. I had one for a couple of days heading up and down motorways and it was good. If you want to have an occasional bit of fun in it then go for the manual.
As an aside - I didn't realise it was a CVT transmission instead of usual auto at first. This was until I joined a slip road and held partial throttle. The revs stayed constant but my speed climbed from 30-70. There were no gear changes or change in revs it was surreal until I realised why!

I actually really like the multitronic box; it's super smooth, at that age they're reliable and they help with refinement too by keeping revs nice and low.
They don't have whipcrack responses if you suddenly stand on the throttle when stationary but it's nowhere near as bad as 'the forums' imply. Like any auto, it helps to ease off the brake before accelerating.
Performance is 'OK' with the 177 rather than lightning quick but it's designed with economy in mind and driven sensibly they use very little juice.
Good value cars.
