We have a 2011 Octavia VRS TDi which has the 2.0 170 CR diesel engine. Although our total mileage is very low at only just over 25k miles, I would like to change the fuel filter but the internet (and particularly Briskoda) is littered with conflicting advice on whether the fuel system has to be purged with VCDS once the new filter is in.

Given this engine has been used across the whole VAG range, can anyone give me a definitive answer?

You dont have to purge it with VCDS.

I would if possible get some fresh diesel in a container. Once you have taken the old filter out fill up the canister as much as possible before replacing the new filter/top.

Otherwise be prepared for the car to initially start and then stall. Youll have to crank the engine over for 10 seconds.... rest for 10.... crank for 10...... etc etc before the car will start again... after about 5 mins.

Its a pain

On our 2010 A3 with the CR 140 engine it has the the lift off top canister filter, i just change the filter without any priming or filling. The car starts right up no problem at all, i do leave the ignition switch on for a few seconds before cranking though but not sure it actually does anything.
