Get a quote on Carwow. Some dealers post their stock on there. I can see two in stock on my account currently both with 9,800 saving. They are Pre-Reg though.

VW have quoted roughly 20 weeks which I was suspicious of, but as its company car through a large lease company they could have build slots prebooked

They do seem to have sorted their st out recently, so to speak. For instance I was quoted a lead time of 6 months on my new Golf R, and it ended up taking 11 weeks from order to delivery. I know of several people who experienced similarly quick build times.

I ordered a Golf GTE end of Feb, going to production next week, and estimated delivery end of May.

So about 12 weeks, though I was originally quoted 16...

Has anyone managed to get a test drive of one before ordering?

I was quoted 12-20 weeks, with an order places in Mid March. I rand a few dealers, a couple of which were able to see a list of built but not allocated cars on four weeks delivery. There were a number of cars on the list with no options and only one with leather. So if you are not fussy about options / colours then you can get one quicker than a complete order from scratch. I ended up with a Night Blue GTE NAV, with keyless entry and winter pack.

As it is a co car, I had to hassle the lease company to sort it, but got there in the end. Arrives next week.

There are demo's out there, out local dealer (Lookers Middlesbrough) has one, which we borrowed for an hour and VW flee managed to get me one for a week to try.
