Unusual Turbo Electric Actuator Error

What issues could cause an electrical malfunction of the Mahle electric turbo actuator as opposed to the mechanical malfunction more commonly associated with them? Ours is not playing ball despite me checking and lubricating the internals.

I've also read it's not possible to calibrate replacements on an existing turbo with these newer actuators (vs the old vacuum ones) despite being able to buy them on their own which seems surprising given what else vcds can do. Has anyone managed this themselves as yet?
