The missus Q7 (3.0tdi) is due it's first service in the next week or so. I normally buy the bits for my cars from source and then get the dealer to fit, saves a fortune. Could somebody enlighten me as to what I'll need? Can't get a straight answer from Audi unsurprisingly.

Surely the first service will just be an oil and oil filter? If so, try calling TPS and see if they have an offers on Quantum LongLife III. Fully synthetic VAG oil. Can be had for around £20ish for 5 litres.

Throw in an air filter if you're feeling flush.

2 years/19k - oil, filter, pollen filter.

First brake fluid at 3 years.

8.2l - That's quite a lot of oil needed. http://oil-change.info/audi-q7-engine-oil-capacity...

Personally I'd rather negotiate a sensible price with the dealer and keep it simple. Or find a cheap independent. (Audi will price match servicing, etc. And their fixed-price servicing on cars >3 years old is cheaper than some independents. 3-year old Q7, interim service is £199 inclusive).

Thanks guys. Car is on 15k miles now. Audi quoted £470 for oil and filters :0 so I'm going to buy the parts and pay for labour.

As silentbrown says, a 3 year old Q7 would be serviced for £199.

Whinge at them. The £470 price is for lease\fleet drivers that aren't paying it themselves.

Hi
Didn't you buy the full repairs maintenance and tyre package from dealer.
Our is £112 per month
We have had two services, new discs and pads all round and three sets of tyres and have saved roughly about £1400 if we haven't taken the rmt package

I don't blame you for being miffed. That's nothing short of extortion.

Burwood, what do YOU do for a living. And how do you react when people say YOU charge too much? laugh

8 litres Oil @ £15 each = £120
Oil Filter. Lets say £10
Sump plug. Lets say £5
Air Filter est £40
Fuel Filter est £30

Leaves £265 for labour. Average Main Audi rate? Lets go with £130+Vat so roughly 2 Hours for a service. Suddenly that service plan above looks good value.

Sure, its more pricey than a Skoda. But I wouldn't go for extortionate. But if you want to drive around in a premium car there's costs to that. I don't recall seeing Porsche owners complaining about servicing in their Cayennes which is fundamentally the same car.

Except... Oil is about £5/litre, air and fuel filters aren't part of the service, and the sump plug gasket is never changed because oil is sucked out through the dipstick...

As for Cayenne owners, here's a remarkable slice of deja vu.... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=141...

Haggling discounts, bringing their own oil... Cheapskates, Pah!

I don't see how that's relevant Rich smile it's an oil change and I see no value in it.

There's no reason for that though - these days the dealers are often in the same places.

OK, it uses a bit more oil but the VW dealer mistakenly gave me a copy of the invoice they send to VAG for the first service under contract on our Golf - £68 inc parts, labour and VAT.

I waited while it was done and was in and out of the dealership in under an hour - and they washed and vac'd the car.

Dealer pricing is such a scam - they rang up during the week and said it needs a cambelt and water pump. £479. I asked if it could be done any cheaper and they said no. So I asked why it was on their website for £349 - they said no problem, £349 then. Doesn't matter - by co-incidence it was being done at the Indie I use now, although not for much less.

Sorry it took me a little while to come back to this, but here is the end result:

Poole Audi sold us the Q7 in Nov 2014. It now needs its oil service (early due to short miles trips). The missus called them up to book and was quoted £471.xx. I then phoned them up to ask them to explain it as it didn't make sense to pay nearly £500 for 8L of oil and a filter.

The service chump (he was) explained that they would be carrying out these things during the servce:

1. Change oil using 8 litres of Longlife 5W30 and a genuine Audi filter. The cost of this was £200 approx (hahahaha!)
2. Give the car a check over to ensure it's in good working order (it's a year old FFS!!)
3. The car would then go to the detailed inspection bay to be checked over again before being taken for a 30 minute test drive. Any issues would be called through to the customer for authorisation (it's a year old FFS. If it's broken then it's getting fixed for free!).
4. The process takes 2.5 to 3hrs all in.
5. Total raping of £471.xx

So, I told him he could stick his half hour oil change followed by a 30 minute test drive and 2 hour break at my expense.

I then phoned my mate who works at a garage and asked for a quote to supply genuine parts, oil and filter. Then I phoned the very helpful Southampton Audi who quoted me £145 labour to fit my parts (cost £65) and stamp my service book. And the missus gets a new A4 for the day!

Win! Poole Audi live up to their reputation once again.

That's not so bad. I totally forgot that your car was under 3 year's old so wouldn't be able to benefit from the fixed priced service regimen.

I called Manchester Audi once to see if they would quote a price for labour only on the minor service for my C6 S6. They came back with a figure which was far higher than the fixed priced service figure INCLUDING parts.

I'm struggling to believe they really do either of those things.

That was my point. Why pay £270 of the bill for some numpty to look over your new car twice, and then take it for a test drive to the shop for lunch? Massive con!

Well, they certainly shouldn't do the road test for an interim service.

That's true. But I think OP said his car's one year old and 15K miles, so presumably just the oil service being flagged up on the dash.

If it's a full service then air/fuel filters too, I guess.

The Audi 9K/19K mile intervals are bonkers. The metric ones of 15000/30000 Km at least make sense.

OP, unless you enjoy sending the car back and forth to garages (or are flogging the car in the next 4000 miles), it might be worth getting the full service done now rather than just the oil change.
