MKV Golf, lost key. Replacement?
Discussion
Hi all
Car is parked up. Went for night out. Lost key (suspect I know where it is but can't check until later today). Can't find the spare. I've turned this place upside down hunting.
Any idea what the damage will be for a new key? Timescale?
The car is parked on a random Street outside of a random house.
Yep, I'm a tit.

Sourcing the new key is the easy part, getting it cut and coded with your current predicament will be extremely difficult.
With your original key set, you'll typically have a tag that has your SKC or Secure Key Code. This is essential for them to be able to code the key to the immobiliser. If you don't have the tag, they can interrogate the immobiliser to give up the SKC, this requires specific software outside of VAGCOM/ VCDS. It's called VAG Tacho in the consumer realm.
First thing I'd do is call VW and find out how they'll cut a new key as you don't have a template and take it from there.
The best thing to do might be to get it recovered to your nearest VW dealer. Or call an auto locksmith and see what they can do. I've seen blurbs that stated they could get you out of this type of situation but I don't understand how they'll be able to cut you a new key without your old one...
