Hi folks,

Any recommendations. Looking for decent discs and pads.

My local garage said Brembo. What do you think. They quoted me £288 in total incl. fitting.

Cheers,
LP

They probably quoted for Brembo because they've just started being stocked on a major basis by EuroCarParts who supply a lot of independent garages nowadays. Having said that, it sounds like a decent price if it's all in and fitted.

Audi's fixed priced regime gives a figure of £475 fitted for the S5. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Personally, if I wasn't doing the work myself, I'd be pretty happy with the price quoted by your independent.

I think the parts from Eurocar come to £180. Another garage quoted me £35 to fit them! Works out even better.

I guess I was not sure of the Brembos at this price point are decent.

Audi quoted me £399 for the same job.probably a different manufacturer though.

They're different diameters, to start with!

I think these are the right ones... 345mm diameter? http://www.bremboaftermarket.com/En/Car_Disc_Catal...

I assume its just the fronts ?

If it's the rears remember who ever does it will require vcds to drive the rear motors (elec handbrake) back prior to winding the piston back or it'll knacker the motor.

Yes they are for the fronts.

Are these straight forward?

I think given that ECP don't appear to know what ones you need. Just for the fact it'll be less aggro I'd be seriously looking at buying at least the Discs from a Dealer. Then I'd be getting Mintex (or similar) Fast road pads and having them fitted by your man for a cheaper rate. You just know that you'll be going back to ECP at least once with the ones they've supplied and one of your old ones to compare. Then they won't have it in stock so there'll be more delay.

This isn't some 1.6 A3. This IS a performance car (and quite a heavy one too) and Brakes are not somewhere I'd be worried about spending the money.

But each to their own

Have you tried Brakes International? As they only sell brakes and associated parts, they are usually worth contacting.

Just done pads on the rs6. Took about 10 mins each side once the wheels were off. Doesn't look like the calipers needs to come off for the discs so an extra 5 mins. Call it an hour all in.
Can't imagine the S5 being more difficult than the rs6.

ECP typically give a range of fitments for every vehicle I've looked at, so listing different sizes for the S5 certainly isn't unusual. The correct size required can easily be found on the web or by calling the dealer so that wouldn't put me off buying from ECP.
I'd also steer well clear of 'fast road' pads. I've tried Mintex, Pagid and the Green Stuff rubbish (which I removed as they were plain dangerous) over the years. In my experience, no 'fast road' pad has offered any performance benefit over the OEM fitment compound on a road car, with the exception of Carbotech XP8s. Those are just anti-social though and would be well out of place on an S5. OEM fitment should be ideal.
