B7 RS4 avant - best tyres?
Discussion
This should begin an interesting debate, but can anyone advise what they have tried and like best?
I've got Michelin Pilot Sport 3s at the moment and am not impressed. I want an all year round tyre, but a bit more feel than the PS3 whilst being good in some sh**y weather in the home counties.
If I opt for P Zero - which one? When you buy them online everyone wants to flog you AO, MO, XL all sorted of nonsense that seem to add up to £30 a tyre!
Or Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2? I've heard good things.
Bridgestone RE050 A?
Appreciate input and experience from anyone who has covered more miles than I in their car!

Not a bit too summery? I am tempted but they are possibly a bit too much of a track / summer tyre, no?
I live in Cheshire so the winter weather isn't harsh. No I wouldn't recommend them in snow. But wet weather performance is fantastic. You have to remember that two thirds of the tread of the PSS was developed for wet weather performance.I wouldn't drive on any other Tyre ATM.

I'm sure I read that the Pilot Super Sports were being discontinued, replaced by the Pilot Sport 4, has this happened yet or just something in the pipeline?
I've got a lot of time for Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres, GSD2/GSD3/Assy/Assy2 have all performed well in both dry and wet conditions on cars that I've fitted them to.
Cheers,
Grant

I believe there will be a Pilot Sport 4, but also a replacement for the Super Sports. Seems very secret squirrel ATM with no information available.I also have alot of time for the Goodyear's.I've got a lot of time for Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres, GSD2/GSD3/Assy/Assy2 have all performed well in both dry and wet conditions on cars that I've fitted them to.

If tyres are needed now, I'd still be getting the Super Sports.

I've seen the option to buy PS4 online but wasn't sure if it was genuine as had not heard they were readily available yet.
Might try the super sports. However, I'm only changing 2 for now as the other pair of PS3s have only done about 3,000 miles.
Any thoughts on having 2+2 non matching tyres?

After a couple of years running the OE spec Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres, I switched to Michelin PSS and never looked back.
The P Zero were "OK" for year-round daily, but when I switched to the PSS, it was a revelation: Wet grip is superb, dry grip excellent.
I have used them during winter and snow with little issue, other than giving a slightly firmer ride in extreme cold. I do now prefer to use Vredestein Wintracs during winter, though.
I'll definitely be sticking with the PSS. I just hope the inevitable replacement model is as good!

I've just ordered some Dunlop Sportmaxx GTs from here (to be fitted on Friday):

They are doing some very cheap tyres on line at the moment!

Stickier tyres on the back is the "norm" to avoid any accidental tail happy moments when the back is less settled (wet/cold/brow of hills etc).
I've used GYF1's and MPSS on my C5/C6 RS6's and rate the MPSS slightly more than the GYF1's.
MPSS - My C6 has 740hp and I've happily used full throttle all through-out the 2015 "winter" in Kent (cold and wet, no snow). I found that their performance only drops off under 5'c and even then it's only to "normal" tyre levels. I've not tried them in snow but apparently they're pretty poor. In the dry/hot they are phenomenal for a road tyre!
GYF1's - My C5 had 500hp and I used full throttle sparingly through-out the 2014 "winter" in Oxfordshire (cold and wet, no snow) as the traction control kicked in more. In the dry/hot they are extremely good for a road tyre but lose traction slightly before the MPSS did. Still a great tyre (like 95% vs the MPSS 100%) which I'd still recommend.

Thank you everyone for your input.
The RS has a brand new set of Supersports on the back....now to see when i need them on the front. Reality is with the mileage the car does and the nature (car full of tiny people) of the driving, it might take a while to destroy the PS3s currently on there. Annoying as keen to see what SS do for steering feel and front end bite.
Regardless, unnaturally pleased with my new tyres even before I've driven it!
PS Cup 2s for my other car very soon....should be even more fun.

t tyres. Not only do they have 0 damp / cold grip to start with, their thread patters is 1/2 cut so they become extra useless far quicker than tyres that aren't rubbish.
