Got an A4, 18 months old @ 18k miles and its due a first service (tis an S-tronic btw)
So....why do Audi want a major service on this at the first one?
I'm out of the loop on service schedules as i used to get the free servicing plan they added in.
They then said they needed at 40K the Stronic box serviced.
Anyone think I should challenge them into a Minor service for the first one?
I can only see the difference between Major and Minor being a Pollen filter (that has never been used!)

The major/minor servicing terms seems just designed to confuse, as are the 9K/19K intervals and the fixed/flexible 'regimes'.
Your car at 18K *currently* needs an Oil Service - (Basically, oil and filter)
However, at 19K (30,000Km) it will need an Inspection Service. (Basically oil, oil filter, pollen filter(extra cost) and road test. Subsequent Inspection services (38K/57K/... will involve plugs, air filter, DSG oil, etc...).

You can either...
a: Get the inspection service done now.
b: Get just the oil service done now, and the Inspection (but not the Service) done in a month's time. (in total, will probably cost more than 'a')
c: Get just the oil service done now, and a Full Inspection service (replacing your month-old oil and filter) in a month. Your dealership will love you
I think 'a' makes most sense.

Why do Audi bully you into paying for full servicing then? I notice they don't even advertise if I try to book online the price of an Interim. (only shown for cars over 3 years old in fixed servicing)
I'm looking at 150 extra quid for a Pollen Filter and fuel filter.
Shall i remind them about the emissions scandal yet or wait until I want to get rid of this motor !

Those Fixed Price deals are basically loss-leaders for older cars, hoping there will be additional work needed or you'll be back into the dealership eyeing up a new car. (It worked on me, I'll admit.) The prices are often so low than good independents can't match them.Don't expect those prices for servicing a newer car. Ask *exactly* what the work they're doing entails. (Don't trust words like 'Major' or 'Full'!) Haggle for a discount (10% or more shouldn't be difficult), and ask what the price will be if you provide your own oil and parts.
I've never been bothered by this as i've for the last few cars had servicing chucked in but now I'm paying this is a bit of an eye opener
and yes its 150 quid but still, thats a lot of money for what sounds like some muppet to change the pollen and fuel filter, then check a tick box.
What would happen if I just went interim service then waited till 37k and did a full with DSG etc (which btw they told me was 600 quid on the phone)...not a way to win business is it when i'm being tucked up for 300 already.

You'll need the "Inspection" very soon, otherwise the service book will miss a stamp. Check the service schedule with the car, as I think fuel filter is avery 38K, not 19K,so you may not need that. And, politely decline the pollen filter. Easy to check it yourself and replace if its wet, stinky or clogged.

At 3 years/38K you'll need DSG oil, brake fluid and fuel filter on top of the normal service. Plus probably pads all round as well, if they last that long. I'd budget on nearer £1000..

I'm having similar with my Golf GTD DSG currently...
It's 9 months old with 17k miles on the clock and has started counting down to it's oil service in 1500 miles time. However the 'Inspection' service is then due 1300 miles after that. I'm getting it all done at once as otherwise it would end up been only 2-3 weeks driving between.
First VW dealer I called quoted £230 for the work, then another one quoted £150. After me double checking a few times that it definitely included all I need I was then able to get the first dealer to price match
