Sports downpipe or Cat back
Discussion
I want to get more sound out of my car so I'm either going to get a cat back or sports cell downpipe, I don't want to spend as much to get a full system.
I've read online that sports downpipe free's up more noise and power than a cat back and you can just get it with your OEM cat back.
People have done that and said it is completely fine without a remap but Milltek/APR Etc say you NEED a stage 2 map with it (Unless its just marketing to get you to spend more with them).
But a few other people have said after some time they have had the CEL warning come up even with a 200+ Cell cat.
Anybody got any insight?

I have a MK6 Golf GTi running APR Stage 2+. The car has an APR cast downpipe with 300 cell cat and a cat back 3" resonated race Milltek exhaust, the car also has a VWR cold air intake. The car is pushing 280bhp.
To be honest if you want more power a remap is the way to go and you do not need to run a different exhaust, however if you do go to the expense of a different downpipe you should get the car remapped to realise the potential gains a map and a downpipe can give.

I'll probably look at stage 1 remap in the future, at the moment I just want more noise, I can get a cat back or sport cat for the same price. To be honest if you want more power a remap is the way to go and you do not need to run a different exhaust, however if you do go to the expense of a different downpipe you should get the car remapped to realise the potential gains a map and a downpipe can give.
