I'm currently doing a daily round trip commute of 110 miles with only the first and last mile not being good A road or motorway.

I currently have a stop gap car in the form of a 2004 1.9 polo with 140,000 miles which is starting to get a bit taxing! I've always fancied an A8 and I'm assuming it'd be fantastic for my commute. I'd be tempted by the 3.0tdi and hope to get reasonable economy on a steady motorway commute. What I don't know is anything about their reliability. Am I mad or should I consider the A6 which I've heard on here do have good reliability.

My budgets around £8000 so looking at 2006 120,000 mile models.

You'll never get a LWB in a parking space tongue out

Cracking cars, I've got the 4.2TD and it just qualifies for cheap VED biggrin

Us Audi drivers don't care about such trivial matters.

I was obviously looking at the gold plated one! Thank you!

So the consensus is it'd be a decent car for the job?

IMO they are the perfect long distance commuting car. I would recommend the 3.0 TDI for greater economy but the V8 is a great engine. If you can get a facelift I would - they have much improved sound deadening. You can tell if it's a facelift if there the front fogs are square and there are indicators in the wing mirrors. Make sure the gearbox oil and filter has been changed - if not budget about £500 to get it done.
