New Beetle Convertible Hood interior problem
Discussion
Hello,
My wife is close to buying a 2005 convertible. There is a problem on the inside of the hood, near the corner by the back seat. It looks like one of the fixings has broken and the inner part, about the last 8 inches is ruched up and you can see the fixing cord hanging down. There must be a tab and hook type of fixing that has broken down in the corner of the car.
Does anybody know if this would be a simple fix, or if the hood mechanism would have to come out, main dealer type of thing?
I don't think it will put my wife off buying the car, but would be nice to know we can fix it at some point and afford it
Thanks

It sounds to me as though the tensioning cord has broken. When I owned an 04 Beetle convertible the tensioning cord was broken and I repaired it myself fairly easily. Mostly it's just a case of drilling out the old pop rivets, so you'll need a drill and pop riveter to start with. I bought the new tensioning cord and black pop rivets from TPS at a cost of about £30 I think.
I compared the old cord with the new to work out which rivets to drill out, then compared the new cord with the side which wasn't broken to work out the correct routing for the cable.
On my car the lining had also detached from around the rear window, I found that TPS sold special clips to allow the lining to be refitted to the window surround.
