Hey, I'm new here so I'm hoping this is the right place.

So I'm 17 and passed my driving test last July months ago. Around august time I bought my first car, a 1.4 MK4 Golf. I loved the car (and admittedly I still do) and i haven't had a single thing go wrong with it, however, there's one slight problem. The guy who had it before me riced it up a bit. He's put a full exhaust system and blacked out back windows. I don't personally mind (I would dare go as far as saying I slightly like the sound it makes) however, I fear people just roll their eyes at ricer cars. I'll admit it sounds alright, and my car would be slightly boring without it, but when I turn up to 6th form in it, I'm sure everyone just thinks I'm a bel**nd.
I tested the car when I was buying, and I clearly wasn't thinking straight, I was just desperate for a car!

So, I'm curious, is there anything I can do? I've considered taking the exhaust off, but then 1) it would be boring and 2) it seems pointless for a car I probably won't keep for more than another year or two tops.
The only reason I would want to remove it is because of the ricer criticism (which I am yet to directly face) and the fact it makes me look like a bit of a nob.

So what do you guys think? Should I just suck it up and take pride in my car, or de-rice it ASAP?

Thanks,
Dave.

Do what you were going to do anyway: When someone compliments it take responsibility, when someone slates it blame the former keeper. Privately, enjoy it.

H...a full exhaust system...
I'd have good shufty at what's fitted and compare with a standard system.

If just the back box has been removed/replaced you can probably change that section alone fairly easily. If the cat has been removed, you (and your wallet) will find out at MOT time frown

If it's obviously a 'performance' system, then you should tell your insurer. (At 17, I'd guess it will be MUCH cheaper to fit a solid gold OEM exhaust than insure a modified one...)

in fairness people at college/6th form are more likely looking on with jealousy at the freedom and car ownership ... this may translate to them thinking youre a bit of a dick, but itll be misplaced jealousy

I had similar in my RICE'r 'P' plate FordKA with its KA2k bodykit, tints, momo arrows, st24 leather, 'sports' zorst etc... back when I was in college c.1998-99

I loved it and didnt care one jot to the jealous bus-w@nkers just made me chuckle more smile
