Golf 7R to 8v rs3
Discussion
Has anyone made the jump?
The R goes back in July and I now have a hankering for a new rs3, however it is an expensive jump, is it worth it?
Probably about 10k of a price difference and a re-mapped golf has just about the same power as the RS however the cabin of Audi is much nicer and the noise is incredible off that 2.5 engine.
Just wondering if anyone has and regretted it or if their are any rs3 owners and how they like thier ownership so far?
Cheers

OP, have you driven a RS3 yet?
I did a back to back test of the 8V RS3 and a Golf R on the same day and on the same roads as both dealerships were next door to each other and although the RS3 has a great soundtrack with the dynamic package I actually think the standard Golf R is just as good in the real world and a tweaked Golf R would in my humble opinion be a better car. I honestly don't think the RS3 is worth the £10K uplift over a Golf R.
We were thinking of part exchanging our 8V S3 for a 8V RS3, hence the test drive but I've since had our S3 tweaked and we're going to keep the S3 for another couple of years.
Obviously test drive a RS3 and make your own decision.

Only the previous version, going to arrange one this week.I did a back to back test of the 8V RS3 and a Golf R on the same day and on the same roads as both dealerships were next door to each other and although the RS3 has a great soundtrack with the dynamic package I actually think the standard Golf R is just as good in the real world and a tweaked Golf R would in my humble opinion be a better car. Looks like you've confirmed what I thought , thanks!
Andy how do you like your s3? Do you have the super sport seats?
What sort of tweaks have you done to the car?
I've had an RS3 for a month now and absolutely love it. It has not been fully run in yet as it only has 500 miles so far, but it already feels a step up from the B8 S4 I had before.
The noise is so addictive and every time I put the key in the ignition, I giggle. I absolutely love dropping a couple of gears into a corner in Dynamic, hear the pops and bangs and then put your foot down on the exit and catapult down the road. I know EVO and the like have a go at it for not being as flamboyant on the limit as others but that doesn't particularly bother me as my car is for everyday. I am not interested in kicking the arse out around a corner exploring the limits of grip with my kids in the back. I am more bothered about having a quick exciting car that can also potter around town well too.
It has a fantastic cabin too that adds to an already great day to day ownership experience, which I feel a lot of car reviewers ignore.

Haven't got the super sport seats, the car was an ex demo and had a whole host of other extras but not the super sport seats. If I was specing a new one I'd have the super sport seats for sure.Looks like you've confirmed what I thought , thanks!

All I have on the car is a tuning box. I didn't want to go down the remap route as the car is only now a year old. The tuning box has transformed the way the car drives and the increase in torque and bhp is exactly what the car should have been from the factory. The company I used says it adds around 50-55bhp and 55 lb-ft torque, there are other companies that claim 75-80bhp gain but I went for a more conservative option. The beauty with a tuning box is that the ecu isn't remapped and once unplugged leaves no trace at all. Some people say tuning boxes are no good but I've had no problems at all and for what it cost it really is a great bit of hardware.
I understand what another poster said about his RS3, but already having the S3 and quite a played with MK6 Golf GTi (around 290bhp), the RS3 (apart from the exhaust noise, which you only get with a £1,500 Dynamic package option) didn't really do it for me.
Like I said previously, I drove the Golf R and RS3 back to back and if I didn't already have the cars I have, I think I would have bought a MK7 Golf R and saved the thick end of £10K. The RS3 is a great car but you can get just as good for less. I wanted to be blown away by the RS3 but that didn't happen.
You may well think the 8V RS3 is fantastic when you drive it but you already have one of the best hot hatches on the market so the benchmark has already been set quite high.
Good luck and please update this thread once you've test driven the RS3.
