'01 Audi 2.5 Petrol Avant engine oil leak, help please

Hi,
A pal of mine has just bought an Avant which has a fairly significant engine oil leak. It was parked outside mine for about three hours at the weekend, and produced quite a large puddle on the road from under the engine.
Before I get the engine cleaner out, does anyone know if there are some favorite places to start looking?
(The cars done close to 150,000 miles.)
