Hi all

My Mrs is thinking of buying a new TT 2.0 TFSI. Probably not a Quattro or TTS model. She has her own ideas as to the spec & options on her wish list and I have my own. My question is, what are the must-have options in terms of resale value and which are the nice to have options in terms of driving experience?

Personally I have a 2011 C Class Merc and have grown to love the e-brake with Hold & hill-start assist. I also love cruise, auto lights & wipers and a decent stereo. It's not going to be my car though.

How long do you intend to keep the car, and how do you plan to sell it?

Pretty much every option, on every car depreciates astronomically fast compared to the actual car, so I think the idea of a 'must-have option in terms of retail value' is a myth (propagated by those who want to sell you options!)

Buy the options you actually want, but expect that in three years time they won't add more than a handful of notes to the resale value.
If you're leasing, epxect to pay for them 100% during the lease period. If PCP, expect the GFV to be unchanged...

Personally, I'd add heated seats, storage pack, metallic paint and maybe an audio upgrade. Not sure I'd bother with anything else...

I don't know why anyone would buy a TT without quattro, unless it was down to cost ?

Traditionally with a TT you'll want:

A nice, bold colour combination
Heated seats
Parking sensors
Nice wheels

My hunch on a 'must have' for the new one:

Nav+

The 'comfort and sound' package I think looks good too.

Don't think you need to go crazy with much more unless there are features you specifically want. There will always be a billion, basic TTs for sale on the back of cheap lease deals but a tastefully specified car will command more money than these.

For me (TTS) the 'must have' option was the Comfort and Sound package. Decent stereo and climate control - criminal that a £40k car came with manual aircon. Bonus was it comes with rear parking sensors and arm rest. Neither of which I'd have thought of adding but have been really good. Also specced different wheels, folding mirrors, metallic and silver interior highlights to lighten up the inside.

Also I wouldn't be without heated seats on leather but it came as standard.

SatNav I left well alone. £1700 for something my phone does much much better was a no-brainer.
