Hello,

I'm currently looking at a Skoda Octavia VRS MK2 Facelift, preferably petrol so this will be the 2.0 TSI engine.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to look out for when i'm viewing them? From what I’ve read so far they generally seem reliable, a few forums users mention road noise not being great.

Prices seem to vary but I was hoping to find a facelift with < 80k for up to £8500, judging by classified this should be possible.

Has anyone had an experience or owned a VRS, if so what were your thoughts? My previous car was an E46 330ci.

Thanks.

I have owned a 2012 vRS for the last 2-1/2 years and 25K miles. Like the car except for the very poor ride.

A known fault is that the side airbag shield in the outer side bolster of the driver's seat distorts (or breaks) causing the bolster to move in towards the driver. Skoda dealers want over £300 to repair. In 2010 Skoda issued a technical bulletin referring to the fault but my car has the problem even though it was built in 2012! Skoda refuse to make any contribution to the cost of the repair.

Mine is a diesel with DSG.

Tyre Roar was a big deal on my old one. Go for a test drive on real (rubbish) roads to hear if you can live with it (4 wheel tracking & the best tyres didn't help mine much)

I'm also looking at one of these just now. Supposed to be viewing one on Saturday but just came across some info on the cam chain tensioner issue on the 2 litre tfsi motor and now I'm in two minds.

Part of me thinks it's very few cars in the grand scheme of things that seem to be affected and people take to the Internet to moan about these things but the other part doesn't want to take the chance as the one I'm looking at is now just over 6 years old and no longer covered by the sale of goods act which forced Skoda's hand in helping out with covering the costs of new motors.

I might start a new thread to see what the consensus is.
