Cam belt replaced now getting limp mode - coincidence?

Hello,

I had my 2010 VW Passat serviced a few weeks back, and they recommended having the cam belt and water pump replaced, which I agreed to.

A week or so later, my car developed a problem - the coil light would flash, and the engine would go into what I now know to be called "limp mode". More recently, the engine light has come on and stayed on.

I was just wondering if there is any possibility at all that in carrying out the cam belt and water pump replacement, VW themselves have caused this issue? Or is it more likely to be purely coincidental?
