I'm in need of a new car and was looking to spend around £3500. Found a 58 plate VW Jetta 2.0 TDi CR Sport on auto trader which seemed pretty decent. Looks in good condition and has FSH apparently. It's up for £3750. The only thing making me cautious is based on What Car/Parker's valuation is its about £400 under guide price.

Is this something that would make you suspicious if you were looking? As much as I know a lot about cars its as a enthusiast and I'm not knowledgeable enough when it comes to buying a used car.

Also am I correct in thinking that the CR is more reliable and doesn't have the same issues as the 2.0 PD engine?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If you want to see what they sell for, create and account on eBay and use advanced search for sold listings. Not fool proof but might give you an indicator.

You could call them up and ask some specific questions:

1) When they say "full history" - is that "they have all of the history" or "it has been serviced to schedule and they have all of the paperwork"

2) Is it Cat C / Cat D?

3) What damage does it have? Scuffs, etc

It seems damage free from the pictures and isn't cat C/D. It is priced below similar cars which are slightly older or have the 1.9tdi engine. Just makes me think there is a catch.
