Recent feedback from someone I know who tracks his modded S5 is that the new Pirelli tyres are excellent on track - he much prefers them to the super Michelin super sports he ran before. I run the Super Sports on both my S Audis on 20s and like them for road use
Depends on your requirements really? I'd avoid the Contis as replacements. Have hated both SC3 and SC5 we've had on recent cars. Wear badly and don't last long

I'll never willingly fit Pirelli tyres to any of my cars. Pile of s

MPSS have been very good on two of my cars, incl. the RS4.
It's strange that, as I would not put Pirelli's on my car either but love them on the bike, only got a TTRS but I replaced like for like which where Michelinin Pilot Sport 3.

Based on personal experience of the Pirellis when they were original equipment on our 2005 Leon Cupra R I would wholeheartedly agree, but tyre technology moves on all the time and if the Michelin SS were unavailable (mine took months to source) or I planned to track the car I'd be tempted to try some
Last time I looked the Michelins were 20% dearer than the rest. Got to change the tyres on our SQ5, new set of Pirelli's only 9,000 miles ago and they're shot, so will try the Conti's. In contrast my RS4 has now covered 11,000 miles on the original Bridgestones, with at least another 2k left, tram lining aside I am impressed with their performance.
I accept the torque and weight of the SQ will have an effect but it's mainly driven by my very sensible wife, i am hoping that a change will reap better performance and durability, but I cannot justify the premium for the Michelin's, much as i'd like to.

I would agree the latest Pirelli's are very different to the old ones. I had to go from MPSS last year as couldn't source 4 and ended doing a bit of research before going with Pirelli's. At a charity event at Brunters I actually found them to have more grip and a lot less tyre squeal under load. I would say be wary of the various types people often fit as the road comfort or less tyre noise variants with the extra names are not the better tyre but all the info of the various ratings within their tyre options is on their site. This was on an RS5 though and not the RS6. That being said you still can't go wrong with the MPSS.

I know it's counter-intuitive but one of the reasons I bought the MPSS was because the construction seems to be particularly good at dealing with low speed town work without scrubbing the sidewalls really badly (both S's have 20s). I found the Sport Contact 5 particularly bad for scrubbing - did a set on our A6 in less than 10k milesI accept the torque and weight of the SQ will have an effect but it's mainly driven by my very sensible wife, i am hoping that a change will reap better performance and durability, but I cannot justify the premium for the Michelin's, much as i'd like to.
