The new Audi RS5 to have 500bhp?!

From how previous performance Audi models have compared to performance BMW models, I'm not sure BMW will be worried.
Well they've not built anything remotely up to the RS6/7 so if the new RS4 and RS5 are as good they could make very tough competition for the M3/M4. The new C63 coupe is the real threat to the RS5 for me, beautiful car, still a V8, bloody quick and an exhaust note that truly embarrasses the lacklustre attempts of BMW's M division.
Lighter and with more power, cannot be a bad thing.. I test drove a very nice used RS5 a few weeks back, only on the off chance the local dealer could do a deal on my current A5... I absolutely loved it and the V8 was no doubt the reason for this joy. I do think it is sad that the V8 will no longer be used. Really gives the car character...

Oh yes, very rapid indeed. Those down shift noises it makes in dynamic mode is very smile inducing, this one had the sports exhaust fitted. The only benchmark I can give is against my old Golf R and it felt remarkably quicker. I know that allot of journalists wrote the RS5 off, however in my eyes it is perfection. Amazing styling, V8 engine and quattro for all road conditions. Looking at the all new A5/S5, IMHO I think the RS5 still looks better!G

Depends what you want from a car I suppose.. Under steer and front heavy bias or rear steer and lots of fun.
As you know BMW have too much power and not enough traction. There's no fun at that! So you are sitting at the lights and some oik in a kitted out hatchback is revving his engine. The roads are wet, as usual in the UK, the lights go green and .... nothing. The BMW M-car would be useless. In a Quattro there wont be any issues!
Usability is useful! That said I am probably getting out of my S5 and into a M6 next year

Really? I beg to differ. The new C63 coupe is the real threat to the RS5 for me, beautiful car, still a V8, bloody quick and an exhaust note that truly embarrasses the lacklustre attempts of BMW's M division.
The M5/M6 are more than a match (albeit different driving dynamics) to the RS6/7. Yes the RS will get away a little quicker in less favourable conditions & if that's the only measure of how a car performs then fair enough, but I like many look a little deeper into what a car can do & how they perform & for me the M5 was the slightly better car. That doesn't make the M5 better or the RS6 worse, just different & having had several RS's the more engaging driving style of the M5 pleased me more.
Another differentiator is the Estate vs. Saloon, I prefer the look of a saloon car have no need to transport dogs/wardrobes, if this was a major factor perhaps the RS6 would be my preference, but it isn't.
Not sure I can agree on the C63 being a contender unless your only requirement is a decent exhaust note, in which case the AMG stomps on the Audi & the BMW, but again it's all down to personal choice & any of the 3 suitors should please the average buyer.

Too much power and not enough traction? For traffic light Grand Prix? Erm, hand your card back in at the door. So you are sitting at the lights and some oik in a kitted out hatchback is revving his engine. The roads are wet, as usual in the UK, the lights go green and .... nothing. The BMW M-car would be useless. In a Quattro there wont be any issues!
