Discussion
I've just signed up for an R estate and whilst I wait, I'm considering sourcing a set of 19's for it. I'm a sucker for OEM so suspect they will be VAG wheels I go for.
Some of the Tiguan wheels look good - they do an 8x19 wheel (that comes with 235/35/19). Would these work? I'd like to bring the wheels out anyway as the standard wheels seem to sit a bit too far in. I'd change the tyres regardless as I'm not a fan of the off-road look. Edit: Actually, I wonder if these tyres might be ok.

You need to think about offset with those Tiguan wheels. I have (aftermarket) 18x8 on my Mk5 Golf which shares the same sized stock wheels as the Mk7 R. The stock offet for the MK5 is 51mm (with a 7.5" wide wheel) and my new wheels have a 48mm offset. This means they I get 3mm less clearance inboard and the wheels stick out 9mm further. I get no rubbing either side. If you go with a larger diameter wheel, you could get rubbing issues on the suspension strut and/ or the wheel arch.
If you're serious about handling, you also need to think about changes to steering axis inclination (SAI) but that's a whole other discussion...
