I, like many people it would seem, have a VW that is going rusty on the front wings. I noticed the drivers side wing was starting to go about 3 months ago so I took it down to my local VW Dealer (Vertu, Nottingham) to see what they'd be prepared to do regarding fixing it. Right away, the guy admitted it was a know fault on all Passat/Golfs/Jettas/Eos' of that vintage and that that they would replace the wing. He took some pics of it and said I'd have to wait about 4-5 months to get it done. Fair enough I thought, at least it will get done, eventually.

Last week, I noticed the other front wing was starting to bubble so took the car to VW for them to photograph. Again, the guy was very helpful and said that it would be done at the same time as the other one. As my initial claim was about 3 months ago, I thought it wouldn't be long before it goes in for repair. He then dropped in to conversation that I'd be looking at a wait of about 12 months due to the large number of cars needing repair, and that the body shop at Nottingham serves most of the VW dealers throughout the East Midlands.

At the time, I just 'shrugged' and muttered "That's fine, I'm keeping the car and I'm happy to wait for it to be fixed".

In hindsight, it looks like I could be waiting well over 12 months to get the body work on my car repaired. I'm now not so thrilled about that.

I did mention this to a friend of mine who is in the car trade and he did suggested they may be hoping a lot of people end up selling their cars before the car goes in for repair.

If this is a known fault with VW's, I wondering if anyone on here has had their cars repaired by VW and how long they waited. I'm also curious as to whether you'd be more inclined to make a bit of noise and try to get it done quicker. I'm a bit reluctant to go down that route through fear of them bodging/rushing it.

12 months wait. Yeah right!

My Golf and Polo were in and out of the body shop with new front wings and paint within two weeks.

It usually takes couple of days for VW parts to get a wing in, then 2-3 days in the PaintShop.
I'd be having words, or go to another VW dealer.

With the currently VW issues at the moment you expect the dealers to be making an extra effort to keep customers happy.

It may be hard to imagine, but if anything VW UK and its dealers seem to have gone worse.

What age is the Passat? They refused to cover mine even inside the corrosion warranty

My Passat was built in 2008. I mentioned the rust to a colleague who has a 2005 Golf GTI with very rusty wings and he took it to Vertu Nottingham who straight away agreed to fix it. The guy at the body shop did tell me it was a known fault with the cars. Best of luck getting yours repaired.
