Hi all,
I don't know whether the rattle was present before, but today I noticed that when giving gas at 1000-1600 revs there is a rattling sound present. The sound also occurs when the revs come down from 1600. The rattle isn't present at startup or when at idle. Does anyone know what may be causing this? I should point out that the car was sold to me having after having been repaired from engine damage due to timing chain failure. According to the trader, the valves and crank were replaced. He did give me a three month warranty with WarrantyWise (wisedealer) though. Thank you in advance.

Its from the drivers side like behind the dash area or by the tyre. Its not coming from the engine bay. Also it only occurs after the cars warm and has been driven for a short while.

I've got a late MK4 1.4 non-use, just recently my cat has deteriorated inside, and produces a similar rattle, might be worth checking out

No sorry. I didn’t keep the car for long as I was fearful of timing chain failure (common issue) and I was getting extremely poor MPG - which could have been due to a faulty intake manifold which I didn’t repair.
