Pipe grips? Surely it can't be that tight on there.

Clean the cap and tools with brake cleaner, and concentrate on getting the tool to grip the cap rather than trying to turn, if that makes sense.

I've never failed to remove one of these using either the three-prong or chain socket types.

If you are really struggling, you can get sockets specifically to fit the cap, eg, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-3117-Filter-Wrench-... (check fitment, this is an example only)

Also - lefty loosey, righty tighty. wink

I once had to pierce through the oil filter on a previous car just to get the leverage to turn it!!

Now I use filter removal caps for specified for the filters.

Have you tried twisting it by hand with a gripper glove? (e.g. a gardening glove with a rubber palm)

You can use a 32mm socket on the top bit

Not on this cap. The cup I bought just slips.

Then most likely the cup is the wrong one.

This is only plastic, it really isn't possible to overtighten it all that much.

This is the exact type I've used, http://images.a1plantsales.com/images/products/142... and it literally never fails. Hold it in place while you wind the chain up TIGHT, and it'll go.

I got it off with the help of a colleague. I am a bit on of a fanny.

the one thing is now I think I put it the wrong way round so ordered another filter incase, much prefer metal ones.
