Any positive DSG ownership stories to tell?
Discussion
I badly need a new car and very much like the previous generation Skoda Superb estate and also the SEAT Altea, both around 2012/13.
Finding 2-litre DSGs within my geographical radius and budget is quite tricky, but I've seen a few 1.6 TDI Alteas and 1.8 TSI Superbs. Having read plenty of doom and gloom stuff about the 7-speed wet clutch DSG fitted to these engine sizes, should I definitely steer clear or are there any happy owners on here who can coax me to consider them?

The dry clutch version is reputedly more troublesome than the wet clutch version. I have driven both types and personally I didn't like them, IMHO a proper TC auto is still much better particularity in traffic and when slow speed manoeuvring etc but I know that a lot of people are more than happy with them.
Probably not the same version? As mine is one of the early ones that apparently were more troublesome, anyway 2004, A3 3.2, 90k miles, 6spd DSG box and had no gearbox issues, I did do the DSG and Haldex oil/filter service on schedule which, presumably helps.
I'm a big fan of the DSG box, in fact I'm looking to replace the A3 with an S4 (S-tronic/DSG box) shortly.

After driving only manual cars (except for hire cars in the US) for more than 45 years I bought a car with DSG (6-speed wet clutch). After 3-1/2 years of ownership, and 40K miles, I will definitely have DSG in my next car. However, I won't have a DSG car without the steering wheel 'paddles'.
