Audit tt for £15K - any advice?
Discussion
Dear all
I crave your wisdom
The wife and I are looking for a fun little weekend runaround. We've dabble with an SLK (1.8) and picked up a lovely low mile O.L.O last year which had been fun but... uninspiring I think what we both wanted was the TT. So the SLK will be moved on in favour of a TT.
Im inclined to go the audi approved used route - in south wales we're sitting between two audi dealers so shouldn't be hard to see some good examples.
Thinking the petrol 2 litre -we don't need the frugality of the diesel. Thinking DSG too..
£15K max
Whats your advice?

I think you're being ripped off. I'll audit your TT for £10k
More seriously, the 2.0 TFSI has direct injection so suffers from gummed up inlet ports over time resulting in a loss of power. Walnut blasting seems to be the most effective way to remove it (though it will reoccur). DSG gearboxes can be prone to problems. Google VAG mechatronic failure.

You sir have the budget for a TTS (just); particularly if it could be stretched just a tiny bit or you don't mind a car with ~80k on it.
They're fast, fun, chuckable, and generally well nailed together.
For the same money you will also buy a newer but more conventional 2.0T (2 wheel drive).
What are you leaning towards?

This is what would be on my driveway with £15k to spend

This^^^^, and without a Boxsters potential £5k engine issues. Plus a TTS should be more planted in slippery conditions. They're fast, fun, chuckable, and generally well nailed together.
thank you every one for your comprehensive replies!
What am I leaning toward? I / We have always liked the TT and suspect that it will be just that little more engaging than the SLK. We don't use the SLK top down hardly ever so it seems a waste.
I drive the SLK on 150 round trips about twice per week otherwise its a short trip to the local rail station for it. The SLK is an auto and I must admit I like at least the option of auto.. Don't want a diesel and the miles don't warrant it. Yes it could be a TTS but happy to look at the TFSI if only to try out the TT before moving 'up the ranks' of tt ownership in coming years. I guess I need to strike soon - the market for those selling convertibles has about a week or two left in it!
