Audi SQ5 - Ultimate/Premium or Standard Diesel ?
Discussion
What type of Diesel do you run your SQ5 on?... Ultimate/Premium or Standard?
I normally use the Standard Diesel, however I have used Ultimate Diesel for the last two fills, but didn't feel or notice any real difference in performance or MPG.
Over the longer term, I appreciate that the engine internals will benefit from the Ultimate fuel.
My weekday journeys tend to be short (6-mile) trips, with longer trips over the weekend.
During the shorter trips, I tend to use 'sport' mode to keep the revs higher and hopefully help warm the engine up as quickly as possible.
What are your views/experience on this?

Ive only ever used standard Diesel, the price difference now between that and "premium" outweighs any MPG saving I could possibly get.
She is quick enough already.
On another note - oil usage? Had to add a litre this week after 8k miles. I dont mind an engine using oil but was a bit suprised when the light came on....

I have an Audi Q7 with the 4.2 V8 TDI engine. Since I bought it just over 2 years ago with 60,000 miles on it, I started with regular diesel, as I assumed the original owners did too. After driving the car for a few weeks, I noticed a reasonable amount of soot not only in the tail pipes, but also on the bumpers around where the tailpipes come out.
I decided to try the premium diesel versions at both Shell and BP. I drive regularly 100 miles per day on a mix of single carriageway A roads and motorways, which means I fill up once a week regularly and don't really push the car very hard. However, after running the car on these fuels for around 2 months, and the diesel smoke on hard acceleration wasn't coming out anymore, the soot in the pipes had gone (I actually see pretty clean metal in them now) and the car felt a little more responsive. The car has done over 110,000 miles and still feels really strong.
I don't really see an improvement in MPG, but I feel that as it doesn't appear to be choked up anymore means I am staying with Premium diesel, unless there is no other option for me.

I've not done much by way of comparison with the BiTDI but have with 245s and really struggled to notice any difference in either of performance or economy.
I'm normally fairly keen on feeling those things and some modern Audis (the 300PS 2.0T for example) absolutely love quality fuel. Premium diesel though I've never been sold on.

Thanks for all your replies!
34-mpg average, using Regular Diesel from a supermarket mostly.
I also get around 450 miles to a tank, depending on how heavy I am on the throttle pedal.
I ran a B7 RS4 Avant from new in 2006, until late 2014 and fed it Super Unleaded throughout that time... overall average was just into the 20's,... miss the V8 burble, but enjoying the SQ5 economy in comparison.
SWMBO runs a 2010 TTRS Roadster and although it's quite thirsty, at around mid to high 20's-mpg... still way better than our previous TVR Tuscan(4.0L)... again, miss the noise it made though, lol !!!

Yes ... the feather touch foot might be an issue until the novelty of the forward thrust rubs off Oh and the Air Con hasnt been on for months - worked out that you dont really need it in this country!!
