Replacing timing chain tensioner 1.8 TFSI
Discussion
Another thread has reminded me that I need to change the timing chain tensioner on my Audi a3 1.8 TFSI 2009 model.
My cars done 82k and the tensioner has obviously not failed. I want to replace it because if it did fail I would be looking at a new engine or scrapping a good car.
Anyone had this done?
Ideas on price?
Any other parts to change at same time?
Cheers.

Ouch, been on phone to Awesome GTI near Manchester, they say it's a bad job to only replace the tensioner, and they will only replace the chain, tensioner and a few other parts as a set. Total cost nearly 900 quid!
It's a huge cost to correct a manufacturing defect, Audi have revised the tensioner on these engines 3 tines since 2009 due to them failing and killing engines at random.

There's a lot of parts to replace, so quite a lucrative job. You can of course just fit the most up-to-date tensioner and see how it goes.

Well the Cars on 83k, I've put a lot of money into the car, decent wheels, tyres, water pump, battery, full service, would be a shame to turn key one day and suddenly all that go out the window cause of a manufacturing defect.
If I'm going to do it then I'm going to do it properly. Surely one more chain will last the life of the car, should be able to run it until it's a shed. Easy add another 100k.
